Local Goods

Today I woke up and made some yummy blueberry pancakes from the Trader Joe's mix mom bought for me. The new skillet warmed up so nicely and nothing stuck to it like everything did on the stainless steel skillet. I know that non-stick pans can be bad for me, but they are SO good to me.
The best part of the day was going to the Hillcrest Farmer's Market, which runs every Sunday from 9am-1pm. It takes place in the DMV parking lot on Normal Street, which frightened me after my first enounter with that place, but this time around the event was much more enjoyable. The first part consists of local farmers with fruits, vegetables, and plants. From there you round the corner to find handmade clothing, accessories, stationary, and other fun things. Finally you end up in the food vendor section, which I did not partake of this time around but will save my appetite for next week.

I bought a Ficus tree and some yummy organic tomatoes, peppers, limes, and avacados. Carrying the Ficus tree back to my apartment was a bit awkward, but the fact that I can walk to the Farmer's Market from my home made it well worth the small effort it took to get the things back!
I rounded the day out with dinner, accompanied by my new roommate, at Rancho's Cocina Mexican & Vegetarian Restaurant. The food was pretty good and the waitstaff was very attentive (my water glass was never empty). The best part though was the scenery. There is a courtyard in front of the store covered with lush, green plants that spill out onto the sidewalk and inside the walls and ceilings are covered in pictures and souvenirs. I'll have to go back with my camera :-)
