With a hug and a kiss, I was on my own again. Mom waved from the curb while I merged back into airport traffic and blew her a kiss good-bye. As I rounded Grape street and watched the harbor recede in the rearview mirror, I decided that my first order of business as an independent Californian was to find out where to recycle. This led me to the Morley
Field Sport Complex on the northern edge of Balboa

Park. The recycling receptacle was difficult to locate because I was looking for a long row of categorized bins and not a lonely blue dumpster tucked away in a back parking lot ... but in the process of locating the bin I discovered a beautiful network of natural trails snaking behind a beehive of sports fields, a dog park, and a municipal pool. I can't wait to go trail running on Saturday morning after dropping off a carload of Ikea and Target packaging at the recycle bin. Next step ... reduce and reuse!
